Virgin America Overview:

Since 2007, Virgin America has been providing unparalleled domestic service to destinations through the United States. The San Francisco, California-based airline is part of the Virgin Group, which licenses out the Virgin name. While it is not officially a part of any other Virgin products, it does often partner with other Virgin-branded airlines. Since its launch, the airline has won such awards as “Best Domestic Airline” four years in a row in Condé Nast Traveler’s Reader’s Choice Awards, and Smart Traveler’s Editor’s Choice in 2010 for “Most Eco-Friendly Airline.”

The Virgin experience is like none other in domestic flight. While touted as a low-cost airline, the amenities and services on board match that of higher priced luxury seats on larger airlines. Every seat is appointed with leather upholstery, mood lighting in the cabin, and fleet-wide in-flight internet. Additional comforts include power outlets at every seat, and touch-screen video consoles. The kids’ entertainment section with parental controls puts parents at ease when traveling, and the on-demand in-flight food ordering system at every seat allows for a more flexible dining experience for all passengers.

Virgin America’s fleet of airliners consists of the Airbus A319-100 and Airbus A320-200. The airline is currently operating 10 of the Airbus A319-200, which can accommodate up to 119 passengers. The current fleet of Airbus A320-200 consists of 42 aircraft, but as of January 2011 there is an order in for another 30 aircraft. Each of the Airbus A320-200 models can fit up to 149 passengers. Virgin America will be adding 30 of the new 146-passenger capacity Airbus A320neo aircraft around 2016, making it the launch customer for the new model. The current fleet of aircraft serves the following destinations: Boston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Los Cabos, New York (JFK), Orlando, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington D.C., Cancun, Chicago, Puerto Vallarta, Palm Springs, Philadelphia, and Portland (Oregon). .
